A winter morning in Prishtina often begins under a heavy, grey sky, where the air feels thick and each breath reminds you of the invisible dangers that surround the city. The air is visibly polluted, the sky is gloomy, and movement around the city is minimal. It’s a terrifying reality that evokes one of history’s worst disasters, where hazardous airborne materials took thousands of lives and turned Chernobyl into a deadly wasteland. 

On January 30th,  Balkan Green Foundation hosted the second edition of the Green Forum, bringing together over 70 participants from different sectors to discuss ways to push forward the Green Agenda in Kosovo. 

"There is a country in Europe. A country where the sun shines for full 278 days of the year…" this is how the rock band ‘The Animals’ would begin their lyrics if the famous song 'House of the Rising Sun' was written about Kosovo instead of New Orleans. 

Today, Balkan Green Foundation (BGF) successfully hosted the first Forum on National Dialogue on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The event gathered a diverse group of representatives and speakers from the German Embassy in Prishtina, GIZ, Kosovo Fund for Energy Efficiency (KFEE), Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, various civil society organizations, and the business community. 

In a momentous collaboration, Balkan Green Foundation (BGF), alongside Open Data Kosovo and Lëvizja Fol, proudly launched the 'Kosovo Green Action' project on November 30, supported by the World Bank through the GPSA grant. This groundbreaking three-year endeavour is poised to redefine the landscape by revolutionizing information access, fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration, enhancing transparency, and fortifying accountability—all in the pursuit of a greener and more sustainable Kosovo. 

Welcome to the exciting world of the RISE project, where 156 young entrepreneurs, grouped into 51 teams, are set to embark on the 4th RISE Journey across the Balkans. Thanks to co-financing from l’Agence Francaise de Developpement, the European Union, the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), and the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO), these visionary individuals will shape their social enterprise concepts, fostering positive change in their local communities.
